My messages sent to the propagation net because you were offline and you appear to never have synced.
It's weird and completely understandable. All you have to do is hit Ctrl+r when the Conversations pane is selected 👍

No, it's for recieving messages sent to you while you were offline.
I've already sent a message to what should be your address.
I'll give you a step-by-step of what I think should work.
1. Open the Network tab
2. Click any node (mine should be fine to use)
3. Click Info
4. Check the box that says "Trusted" and the one that says "Use as default propagation node"
5. Click Save
6. Go to the Conversations tab
7. Highlight anything in the sidebar (you should not be able to type anything in an open conversation)
8. Hit Ctrl+r
9. In the popup make sure "Download all" is checked
10. Hit "Sync Now"
Then you should see my messages.
